Stephenie Meyer om The Host
Extra ur 'The Host'
On April 13, author Stephenie Meyer will publish the paperback edition of her best-selling sci-fi book “The Host.” Meyer, the author behind the “Twilight” series of books, will include in the coming version of “The Host” a never-before seen “bonus chapter.” “The Host,” Meyer’s first novel for adults, tells the story of body-snatching aliens who invade the earth. One of these extraterrestrials, who goes by the name Wanda, develops an unusual relationship with Melanie, the woman whose body she has taken over.
En bit ur utdraget:
I’m all alone.
It’s dark. I can’t remember where I am … or why I’m here. It’s wrong that I’m alone. Where is Wanda? I can’t see to look for her. I can’t remember how to call for her. It’s silent. I can’t feel her. I can’t feel our body.
Panic starts to set in as I wait for her voice. For her to say my name. To tell me where we are. To open my eyes so we can see. I need to hear her voice — my voice, in my softest tone, my gentlest inflection.
I wait, but there is nothing. Just me and the dark.
The panic gets worse as I try to remember. Did she shut me out again? That happened once, I know, but I don’t remember it. I don’t think it was like this, panicking in the dark. It was just nothing then.
And I don’t think Wanda would do that. Because we love each other. I remember we said that. Just before …something. I try to dredge up the memory.
We were saying we loved each other.… We were saying …
Good-bye.

Surprise!
I have a new book coming out. It’s called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. Well, it’s more of a novella than an actual book—my version of a short story.
Actually, this has been a surprise to me, too. The reason why it’s a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree’s perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.
This story was something that I worked on off and on for a while, just for fun, in between the times I was writing or editing other Twilight novels. Later, when the concept for The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide came up, I thought that might be a good place for Bree. Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew. So I dusted it off and finished it up for placement in the Guide.
At the same time, it came in handy for the Eclipse film. Melissa (Rosenberg, the screenwriter) had a ton of questions about what exactly was going on in Seattle, how Victoria managed things, what Riley was like, etc. I let her read what I had then, and later gave the whole thing to the director, David Slade. David asked if Xavier, Bryce, and Jodelle (Riley, Victoria, and Bree) could read it as well, so all the parties involved would end up having a really strong foundation for their characters before the cameras started rolling. I was pleased that this side of the story would make it into the film and was looking forward to including it in the Guide.
Then I got the news: my “short story” was nearly 200 pages long when typeset. It was too long to fit into the Guide—without ending up with a tome as heavy as the Oxford English Dictionary. My publisher approached me with the idea of releasing the Bree story on its own. One of the major benefits of this plan was that it would be out before the movie, so people would get to know Bree before they saw her in the film. That made sense to me, and we decided to go ahead with it.
There was one thing I asked for: since this story had always been an extra for me, and was meant to be released with the Guide, I wanted to be able to offer it to my fans for free. You all have bought a ton of my books, and I wanted to give you this story as a gift. My publisher was awesome and embraced this idea. We still wanted to also produce a physical book with a cool cover (see below) that you can add to your set if you like, but starting at noon on June 7th until July 5th, it will also be available online at www.breetanner.com.
One other aspect of this release is the plan to give a more important gift to people who really need it. One dollar of each book purchased in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Haiti and Chile and other parts of the world where people are in great need. We’re going to have an option online as well, so you can choose to make a donation if you want when you read the story online. I hope you will. I think that we can really help a lot of people with this.
I really hope you all enjoy this story. I had a blast writing it. I’m glad that after all this time cooling her heels in my files, Bree finally gets her chance to shine.
Thanks for all the support,
Steph

Blir det en Breaking Dawn film?
Det sägs att Stephenie Meyer inte vet om hon vill att det ska bli två filmer av Breaking Dawn och därför har dom inte sagt något om att det ska bli en film.
"Stephenie is calling the shots," a spy tells E! Online, "and she still can't decide whether or not [making two movies] is the right thing to do creatively."

Are you writing any other books right now? – Kershia
One of the weirdest things for me about success is how it sucks away your time. I’m successful because I write books, but that very success takes all my writing time! It’s very frustrating. I’m just itching to get back into a fantasy world right now, but the real world won’t let me. I thought this would be a writing year, but unless you count emails as writing, it didn’t work out that way. I was able to do a few smaller things that will show up here and there—an extra chapter for the release of The Host in paperback, that kind of thing. I’ve really worked to clear my time, but that is a slow and ongoing process. Of course, another aspect is that I am more burned out by the last five years than I even realized.
If you had to choose, would you rather be a vampire or a werewolf? – Kaitlin Theodore
Werewolf. I like being able to change my mind, and the werewolves always have the option to go back to “normal.”
I am curious, when you think of Edward and Bella, or read or talk about them, do you still picture the people from your dream? Or has your images of these characters changed over time, especially now after seeing your books adapted to film? Thanks! Danyeal Jones
When I read the books or think about the characters in a writing scenario, I still see them they way I first did. I can still see exactly what they looked like in that first dream. When I’m reading the script, however, it’s all Kristen and Rob and Taylor.

Stephenie Meyer pratar om Midnight Sun
Stephenie Meyer om Midnight Sun:
I’ve found that there really isn’t any answer I can give that changes the substance or tenor of the myriads of requests, pleadings, and demands I get for Midnight Sun to be finished, so I feel a little silly answering that question at all. But it’s the most popular question, so I’ll take another stab at it.
I am not working on Midnight Sun now. I don’t have a plan for when I’ll get to it; I don’t know now what the right time for it will be.
In your questions, there were some erroneous conclusions about the situation which I’ll try to set straight. First, Midnight Sun is not finished and locked in a safe, waiting for me to be done angsting over the leak. If it were done, I would be throwing it on the bookstore shelves myself. I’d love to be able to give it to all the people who are anxiously waiting for it. Second, I am not upset about the leak. I haven’t been for a long time; I was over it after about three weeks. Third, and most important, I am not trying to punish anyone. Not the persons who leaked it, not the people who read the leak, nobody. As I said, it would make me very happy to be able to give it to anyone who wants it.
So why the hold up? Because it’s not finished and lying in a safe. It’s not done, and finishing it is not a simple matter of sitting down in front of my computer and typing out the words; the words have to be there in my head to type out, and right now, they’re not. I have to be in the zone to write any story, and trying to force myself into that zone is a waste of time, I’ve found. I’ll get back to Midnight Sun when the story is compelling to me again. Just because people want it so badly does not make it more write-able; kind of the opposite, actually. I need to be alone with a story to write, and Midnight Sun feels really crowded, if you know what I mean.

(min födelsedag!)

Hi everybody!
I wanted to apprise you all of a few upcoming things.
You know I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big. So….I will be on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Friday, November 13th. Check the local listings on Oprah’s website to find out what time it will be on where you live.
Of course, most of the questions for Oprah will be designed for a broader audience than just die-hard Twilight fans, and I imagine people who read this site and other fansites will already know most of the answers. To rectify this, I’m going to answer your more specific questions on-line. The official Twilight Saga website (www.TheTwilightSaga.com) will be taking any New Moon movie-related questions you might have for me, and then I’ll answer those most frequently asked. I’ll post the answers on the Twilight Saga website and also here on my own site. Questions can be submitted to TheTwilightSaga.com from noon (Eastern Standard Time) on Monday, November 9th through noon Tuesday, November 10th. The answers will be posted Monday, November 16th—or New Moon Premiere Day, as it is known around my house. (Details about submitting the questions will be posted first thing Monday morning at TheTwilightSaga.com, you can also get more information below.)
I’m so very excited that you’ll all get to see New Moon in just two weeks! Then you’ll see what I’m going on about. Until then, think up some good questions for me.
Love,
Steph

Nathan från bandet Meese har träffat S.M
"Hi guys, Nathan here. Now for something that you probably didn't know about Ben and me. We're into Twilight. Like IN TOit. It started when we were visiting our record label almost a year ago and they had a bunch of copies of the book laying around and I needed something to read on the airplane on the way back to Denver. Anyways - it was one of those obsessed-at-first-page type scenarios where I didn't put the book down for two days and two nights until it was completely absorbed by my eyes and my brain. If you'd of told me earlier in my life that I'd be reading vampire love story saga I'd call you crazy, but sometimes life throws you curveballs...
"So I finished ‘Eclipse' (the third book) about a week ago before a show with Copeland in Cali. I bought ‘Breaking Dawn' (the last one) at the airport in San Francisco before I flew home to Denver to play a show. Yadda yadda we're playing our first show with The Fray in Phoenix two nights ago and I had been reading the in the dressing room and got to page 120 or something like that when all of a sudden some says in passing really nonchalant "Yeah, the Twilight author, Stephenie Meyer is gonna be here tonight". Then I had this split second indecision of "Should I try to play it cool and act like I meet super famous genius writers all the time? OR should I flip out and tell her what a big fan I am and get my picture taken with her?". I think it's pretty obvious which one I picked. Stephenie was AWESOME. We got to hang out and chatted for a while! If it wasn't for the fact that we had to go on stage to play, I probably would've tried to talk to her all night."
Han och hans band kommer säkert få vara med i soundtracket,
Gå in här för att kolla in deras musik.
Jag tyckte dom var ganska bra!

P.S. You got to see a little taste of New Moon tonight, but I promise you this: when it comes to New Moon, you haven’t seen anything yet! Can November please come faster?
Jag håller med Steph. //M
Stephenie Meyer's 12 Inspirations!
Här är några böker, serier, filmer, band som Stephenie Meyer blev inspererad av.
JANE EYRE
''I read it when I was nine,'' says Meyer, ''and I've reread it literally hundreds of times. I do think that there are elements of Edward in Edward Rochester and elements of Bella in Jane. Jane was someone I was close to as a child - we were good friends! I think in some ways she was more real to me than any other fictional heroine.''
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
''The series influenced how my series turned out. Because I was never a fan of the stories where everything ends and they kiss at the wedding. Anne of Green Gables started out with her as a child, she had a very fully described adolescence, she had a book-long engagement, we got to see her wedding, we got to see her have her first child and lose her first child, we got to see her children grow up. We got the whole life, and I loved that.''
X-MEN CARTOONS
''This is crazy, but those Saturday-morning cartoons...I was always fascinated with the X-Men. I love the idea of a group of people and all of them can do something really well. They're special, but they're strongest when they work together. Maybe that comes from having a big family, but I always clicked into that kind of story. And I think that really came into play when I was subconsciously forming the Cullen family. Though I certainly wasn't thinking about Cyclops when I was writing about them, I think it was there in the layers underneath.''
MUSE
''They universally work for my writing style. If I have to write a scene of despair, 'Apocalypse Please' will work. And if I have to write an action scene, I can put on 'Assassin.' If I have to write a scene about love, 'Starlight' will work. They have so many emotions!''
LINKIN PARK
''Essential to me in the beginning! Something about the tempo of their songs really kept the action in the novel. Otherwise it might have been a lot more sedate! 'By Myself' was a song I listened to in loops because just the sound of it, and the words of aloneness, the attackers behind you. That was really a great one for me.''
MARJORIE FAIR
''For New Moon they were absolutely essential. They can put you into a suicidal state faster than anything I know. It's just this heartbreaking music where the pain is done so beautifully. It really got me in the zone for writing about a person who is horribly depressed and yet not at all showing it. She's not wearing black and refusing to come out of her room and yelling at the people she loves. She is completely containing it inside herself. Their songs really made it beautiful for me.''
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE
''This band is so in touch for me with Jacob's character. This really raw, uncontrolled emotion - where it's not about some person who's grown up and callused over and learned how to control things. It's someone who's feeling it for the first time and just wants to go out and blow things up. The song 'Famous Last Words' is a really romantic version of Jacob saying, 'Okay, I'm putting myself out there, and you're probably going to break me, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still going to make the offer.' ''
SOMEWHERE IN TIME
''The one movie that I watched a lot as a kid. It combined music into the story. Oh my gosh, with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. The music is Rachmaninoff, and every time you hear that song, you're poised to fall in love. The relationship there is just this impossible thing that he makes possible. That had to be an influence on me.''
BABY MAMA
''When I'm on the road, I need a comedy that is as mindless as I can find. I watched Baby Mama on tour. I love Tina Fey. I think she may be the most adorable person on the face of the planet. And Amy Poehler is a close second.''
HGTV
''When I'm not on tour, when I'm home - here comes the geek girl - what I have on almost all the time is the Home and Garden TV channel. I adore House Hunters International, I adore Designed to Sell; I just love looking at all the houses and watching people get their houses all prettied up. HGTV is a safe place, and everyone is always happy.''
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.
''Isn't Iron Man the best superhero movie that's ever been done? That's how you should feel coming out of a movie. You go in, you're excited, you come out all jazzed and pumped. The best parts of that movie are when it was only him. I'm so glad he's back.''
STRANGER THAN FICTION
''There's a scene where [the fictional character] Emma Thompson's character created...tracks her down and walks into her living room and he goes, 'Hey, I'm Harold Crick.' And she collapses to the floor and says, 'I know.' That moment makes me cry. Imagine what that would be like! I actually did have a dream after Twilight was finished of Edward coming to visit me - only I had gotten it wrong and he did drink blood like every other vampire and you couldn't live on animals the way I'd written it. We had this conversation and he was terrifying.''
